D. ATTENDANCE / MAKE-UP LESSONS

1. In order to reap the full benefits of our programme, we seek your cooperation and full understanding that your child should attend all lessons.

2. If a student is to be absent for a lesson, it is the responsibility of the student(s) and/or parent(s)/guardian(s) to inform the centre as soon as possible.

3. Other than being absent on the grounds of medical reasons, official school events (such as school competitions etc.) or other major occurrences (such as bereavement of immediate family members, etc.), students may not be eligible to arrange for a make-up lesson.

4. If a student is absent for valid reasons as stated above, the student can attend a make-up lesson that is available on the same week.

5. For online classes, Cognitus Academy will try to schedule a make-up lesson on another online class of the same level within the week. If this is not possible, a video recording of the lesson, together with lesson materials, will be sent to the student as replacement for a make-up lesson. Students are still expected to complete the lesson materials and may seek additional support from our teachers if necessary.

6. For Sunday (end-of-the-week) classes, students who miss lessons due to unforeseen circumstances (usually medical reasons with medical certificates) will receive a video recording of the lesson, together with lesson materials, as replacement for a make-up lesson. Students are still expected to complete the lesson materials and may seek additional support from our teachers if necessary.

7. As all our classes are group-based, the tutor(s) are not obligated to conduct a separate make-up class for any individual student regardless of the reason of absence. Any make-up class outside the centre’s lesson schedule is only provided out of goodwill.

8. If a student is unable to come for a lesson for whatever reason, the student will still receive the worksheets for the particular lesson from his teacher the following week as long as fees have been paid.

9. Make-up lessons are limited to one per student per term and cannot be rolled over to the next term.

10. Make-up lessons are scheduled based on the best efforts by Cognitus Academy and our parents, and are not guaranteed. Therefore, we strongly encourage students to attend lessons consistently.

E. STUDENTS’ RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Students should be aware that they are attending the course(s) to study and are expected to behave responsibly at all times.

2. Actions, which will cause disturbance to other students or will lead to any bodily harm will lead to instant dismissal from the course. In such case, no fee refund will be made.

3. Students have the responsibility to complete assigned work according to the deadline given by teachers and to file their lesson materials (notes, worksheets) in an orderly manner.

4. Students and parents are not allowed to share or disseminate any material by Cognitus Academy to anyone who is not a student from the centre. All the content and images are the property of Cognitus Academy and they are protected by copyright. We appreciate your respect for our materials.

F. TERMINATION

1. Cognitus Academy will be able to offer partial refund if a student chooses to terminate classes mid-way through the term. Fees will be refundable based on 50% of remaining lesson fees unused in the term.

2. Cognitus Academy will offer a full refund of term fees paid after deducting a cancellation fee of $150 if a student terminates classes before the first lesson of a new term. The cancellation fees may be waived for Primary 6 students promoted to Sec 1 in the following year due to unanticipated schedule clashes during this transitional period.

3. Please provide a written notice (delivered by hand, post, email, WhatsApp message or SMS text message) of your expressed intention to terminate your child’s attendance at Cognitus Academy.

G. PHOTOGRAPHS/RECORDINGS

1. From time to time, Cognitus Academy and its staff will record students’ image, work or voice for training, publicity, promotional, publishing or educational purposes.

2. Parents who wish to opt out of the above clause should send Cognitus Academy a written notice (delivered by hand, post, email, WhatsApp message or SMS text message) of your expressed intention to opt out. We fully respect your decision.

3. Parents and students are not allowed to make photographic, video and/or other recordings inside our classrooms or premises unless you have obtained prior consent from Cognitus Academy.

4. Cognitus Academy reserves the right to record online lessons and meetings, and has discretion on whether to disseminate these recordings to participants.

H. COGNITUS ACADEMY’S RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Cognitus Academy is committed to teaching our students to the best of our ability. However, we believe in the mutual efforts of parents and teachers to achieve the best outcomes for our students.

2. Cognitus Academy reserves the rights to change the tutors if it deems necessary and conduct the programmes and classes in any manner it deems appropriate.

3. Cognitus Academy may amend the class schedule/venue for existing regular classes, if the need arises.

4. Course fees may be changed and the services offered may be withdrawn at any time. In the above case, Cognitus Academy will give at least one (1) week advance notice to the student.

5. Cognitus Academy reserves the right to cancel a course if it is undersubscribed. In this case, you will be given a full refund of fees paid for the unattended lessons.

6. Queries pertaining to any external materials brought in by students will only be answered or handled at the teachers’ discretion and convenience.

I. INDEMNITY

1. While Cognitus Academy and its staff will exercise the utmost care and precautions to ensure the safety of every student during classes, parents accept that mishaps and accidents may occur due to circumstances beyond Cognitus Academy’s control. Therefore, all parents agree that Cognitus Academy cannot be held liable for such incidents and will thus indemnify Cognitus Academy against such liability.

2. Parents or guardians will accept full liability for any damage caused by the student to premises where programmes are conducted.

3. Cognitus Academy will not be responsible or liable for the loss of any personal property in Cognitus Academy’s premises.

4. Upon the dismissal of classes, Cognitus Academy will not be responsible for the whereabouts of the students. Hence, Cognitus Academy seeks the kind cooperation of all parents and guardians to take note of their children’s dismissal times and arrange for prompt pick-up.
