Does your find Math too challenging? Is your child still:
Struggling to score well in Math exams?
• Unable to understand key mathematical concepts?
• Losing more than 10 marks due to careless mistakes?

From our experience…
👉🏻 Students are struggling to score well in Math because they are unable to solve problem sums involving model drawing.
👉🏻 Students are also intimated by certain Math topics like Speed, Ratio and Percentages, of which they lack the ability to grasp the concepts taught.
👉🏻 Careless mistakes can be the bane of every student dealing with Math. This is because they are unmotivated to score and are mainly aiming to pass the subject.

We believe that it is never too late to make improvements. We have taught students who come to us weeks before PSLE and improved by two grades. However, the process was gruelling and filled with anxiety for both students and parents.

Apart from regular Math lessons, Cognitus Academy has designed an intensive programme that follows the DEPTH Framework and covers all the important Pri 5 topics and heuristics necessary to excel for P6 Math exam.

Read on to see how the programme works.

Conquering Mathematics through the DEPTH Framework

The DEPTH Framework provides 5 key elements to help students learn Math effectively. This framework evaluates students’ current ability, helps to clear doubts, and exposes students to exam-based questions.

Our curriculum structure includes asking probing questions in class to encourage students to explore, discover and build their confidence in Math.

Deepened Curriculum, Heightened Learning

Apart from what is learnt from the school syllabus, students will develop a deeper insight into the curriculum. Understanding the core concepts deeply will also enhance students’ ability to apply heuristics to handle higher-order thinking questions.

Eliminated Errors and Misconceptions

Drills and practices develop fluency and heighten students’ awareness of their carelessness when solving Math questions. Training students to understand their own tendencies greatly improves the accuracy of their calculations.

Practical and Authentic (Real World) Math Teasers

Learning out of real-world context requires abstract thinking. This requirement stumps some students who need to see concrete examples. Students will learn to link math to authentic real-world problems, enhancing their number sense and conceptual development.

Think Critically and Mathematically

Thinking critically requires habits of mind and problem-solving skills. Merging critical and mathematical thinking makes the learning of Math exciting and engaging. Learning Math in this way unlocks the fun and challenging aspects of the subject.

Honed Precision

With carefully selected tasks for each lesson, students will learn how to be quick and accurate in their computations. Beyond procedural accuracy, students will also develop structural thinking that provides repeatable steps for analysing non-routine questions.

About the PSLE Math Jump Start Programme

The Jump Start Programme will be held over 4 sessions.

During this content-packed programme, students will be exposed to exam-based questions, answering techniques like “1-minute Drill” for MCQs and “2-minute Dash” for SAQs to help them be quick and accurate in these two sections.

They will also be exposed to different types of heuristics questions and the “Must-Know” PSLE questions for Booklet B to help them achieve the desired AL1 for their P5 final exam and PSLE.

Here are the key Pri 5 topics covered in the PSLE Math Jump Start Programme

Topics Convered
Geometry: Angles
Volume of cubes and cuboids

Here’s what your child will receive during the PSLE Math Jump Start Programme

✅ Increased coverage on application questions (students will be exposed to the more popular exam questions based on the recent years. Our coverage also includes questions that past students have lost careless marks).
✅ Jam-packed notes on topics which are more difficult like Ratio, Percentage, Speed and Rate.
✅ Useful tips on how to secure marks

Our Teaching Team

Cognitus Academy takes pride in helping our students achieve breakthroughs in their results.
We are able to do that because of the strong team that we have built to teach, organise and administer our robust Math programmes.

Having been a teacher trainer at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Dr Daniel Chua has not only crafted a solid curriculum for our students, but also an effective training programme for our teachers.

At Cognitus Academy, teachers form the foundation of our Math programmes. Prospective teachers are screened meticulously and undergo a rigorous 3-month training programme to develop core competencies of a teacher. Teaching interns also develop academic and philosophical roots in their pedagogy by studying the relevant materials in-depth and observe senior teachers in action before they enter the classrooms to teach.

After the completion of formal training, new teachers will continue to go through robust training and meet regularly to sharpen their problem-solving skills, explore innovative and effective curriculum for students, and refine teaching methods to enhance the students' mastery of the subject.

Our curriculum and pedagogy are continuously refined and updated in accordance with the changes in the education system by our curriculum team comprising of ex-MOE teachers, Heads of Department, Senior Teachers, PSLE markers and experienced Cognitus teachers.

During the course of our PSLE Math Jump Start Programme, we will be introducing top exam tips and strategies that has proven to help many students solve these type of exam questions. We are excited to have your child join us for our Jumpstart Programme where he/she will learn our approach and build their confidence in Math.

The following core components of the Math exams will be covered in the PSLE Math Jump Start Programme:

👉🏻 Types of Heuristics Questions
👉🏻 How to be quick and accurate in Booklet A
👉🏻 Securing marks in Booklet B
